Peter Wruck & Amy Forrest have recently moved to the Sunshine Coast to pursue their dream of building a business of their own, rearing tropical clownfish and other species of marine life for the enjoyment of others as pets.

It is their ambition to extend their business further, as Aquaculture Consultants, and in the installation of aquariums for both the public and private sector.

Peter has a ‘blue thumb’ in the field of Marine Biology and has spent nine years working as the Technical Officer in the Marine Biology and Aquaculture Research Facility Unit (MARFU) at James Cook University in Townsville. His position involved the maintenance of seven large marine recirculation systems and twenty-two research laboratories each containing different research projects on various marine and fresh water species. He was responsible for advising students and researchers on their experimental design, the construction, running and maintenance of their experiments.

MARFU was located 25 kilometers from the ocean adding to the challenge of ensuring environmental control above and beyond the standard required by the leading marine research university in Australia. Peter also worked as a Research Assistant for Dr. Mark McCormick conducting the research on parental effects on egg quality and larval survival of Damselfish. In 2001 he designed and built a small-scale aquaculture business breeding marine fish for the aquarium trade, and has trained others to operate this business.

Peter's current employment at Underwater World Aquarium in Mooloolaba, on the Sunshine Coast, gives him access to further his research in the practice he loves. His role as an Aquarist has given him a strong grounding in the operation of public aquariums and an appreciation for the importance of fantastic visual displays for public viewing and education.
